When Hurricane Helene struck Western North Carolina in late 2024, it fractured entire communities. In places like Bat Cave and Chimney Rock, landslides buried highways, bridges collapsed, and access to emergency services was cut off. The cleanup has stretched into 2025 and continues today, demanding grit, coordination, and the right tools for the job.
Local Dealers, Local Impact
Our dealers—Hill Machinery, James River Equipment, and Ascendum Machinery—responded immediately. Within hours of the storm passing, they mobilized fleets of excavators, wheel loaders, haul trucks, and other essential equipment to support contractors and municipalities throughout the region where they live and work. Their commitment to recovery in their communities has been unwavering.
Where Things Stand Now
Cleanup along US-64 between Edneyville and Bat Cave took more than six months. Only recently have full-scale rebuilds begun. Contractors like Blythe Construction are working to stabilize slopes, rebuild washed-out roadbeds, and restore safe passage through Henderson County.
Sections of Highway 64, 74, and 9 still face erosion and lane restrictions. In some areas, crews are working from the bottom up, using excavators to build access ramps and stabilize terrain before larger equipment can move in. The work is slow but steady, and every cleared path is a step toward reconnecting isolated communities.
